Professor Manabu Minami had started his residency training for becoming a radiologist at the University of Tokyo Hospital soon after graduation of the same university in 1983. During the residency training he got the license of ECFMG and VQE. He had opportunities to study radiology in the Medical College of Wisconsin, Milwaukee in 1986 and to work as a clinical fellow in MD Anderson Cancer Center in 1994. After he got the title of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) from the University of Tokyo, he has been serving as Professor and Chairperson of Department of Radiology at University of Tsukuba since 2004.

He published many publications including 126 peer-reviewed original articles in English and 32 original articles in Japanese as well as 63 review articles. He has also written 4 books and chapters in 23 books in addition to 9 translation books from English and German. He has been invited as a guest speaker of 13 international and 140 domestic meetings. He had been awarded in several international congresses as the 1st presenter including 1 Magna Cum Laude of Society of Body CT, 1 Cum Laude of RSNA and 3 certificate of Merit of RSNA besides many awards as a coauthor.

His research interests relate to thoracic, abdominal and musculoskeletal imaging, especially oncologic and systemic diseases. He is especially interested in dynamic phenomena of imaging in the chest and abdomen, including the flow of air, blood, lymphatics and ascites.

He is now serving as Vice President of Japanese Society of Abdominal Radiology (JSAR) and Treasurer of Asian Society of Abdominal Radiology (ASAR).
